How to turn off the internal microphone on a notebook computer

The growing popularity of voice recognition and VOIP programs such as SKYPE has lead people to purchase external microphones for better audio quality. Unfortunately it seems that only about 50% of the notebook computers internal microphones shut down when an external microphone is connected, which defeats the purpose of using an external microphone.I recommend that the sound settings are checked any time an external microphone is connected. The steps for checking and disabling the internal microphone in Windows 7 are as follows:

Open the control panel
In the category view select hardware and sound and choose the sound applet
In the icon view choose the sound applet
Click on the recording tab
Right click on the internal microphone
Left click on the disable option
